Bude Men 5 - Plymouth Uni A 0 16/03/2019

Bude finished off this season's home games in superb style with a convincing win over already relegated Plymouth University; having lost the coin toss Bude were made to play into the strong wind for the first half by the visitors who had only brought 10 men but this made very little difference. As after Plymouth had had the first shot from a short corner which was drifting wide it was one way traffic thereon in as Bude went swiftly up the other end and won a short corner of their own which was cleverly finished by Paul Floyd at the near post by slapping into the back of the netting. The gusting wind made playing conditions tricky so it was no surprise that it seamed to be a stop start affair with very little flowing hockey on show, however there was plenty of space available for Bude due to the man advantage and when they were able to align numerous passes their superior class showed all across the pitch and it was from a quick passing move down the right hand side that allowed Kristoff Saunders to ease into the D from where he picked out Tom Fry who had time to wind up a lethal low blow into the bottom far corner to make it 2-0 at half time. Bude felt they had the wind advantage in the second half but it was Plymouth who come out fighting and applied sustained pressure to the Bude defence but they had not bargained for man of the match Robin Jennings who was in imperious form marshalling his defence and leading by example by letting very little get past him and on the odd occasion they did the rest of the defence played their part to snuff out every chance Plymouth could mount. As the half wore on Bude regained the upper hand and began an assault on the Plymouth goal creating chances at will from all angles and sides but it seemed like an eternity until Kristoff Saunders forced home one of his trademark rocket shots that the game was eventually made safe. The charge continued as Bude went for the jugular and were duly rewarded as Kristoff earnt a well deserved brace with a deft deflection and Jared Slade rounded off the scoring and his good performance by making no mistake from close range to make it a fabulous 5. Bude now look forward to next week's last game of the season away to Plymouth Marjon's fourth team knowing that a similar effort will cap a very solid season.
