Bude made the short trip across to Plymouth Marjon University in good spirits and after an early scare which was well saved by Keeper Andy Davis Bude counter attacked swiftly with a superb cross field ball from Thomas Hall which found captain Henry Gwynn-Thomas who fired across the D for Jon Elliot to open the scoring. The Bude defence were then put under constant pressure across all area’s of the pitch from the well organised Marjon team but it was Bude who scored again as a nothing ball pushed up front was chased down by Noah Reeves whose weak shot was deflected home by the defender past his own keeper. Marjon’s kept pushing and were unlucky not to get a goal straight back as their striker let fly an excellent shot from the edge of the D towards to the top corner but Andy was more than equal to it making an excellent stick save. They continued to pile on the pressure with multiple short corners and meaningful attacks and got their deserved goal midway through the half but Bude gathered themselves well to prevent Marjon’s levelling and were just as dangerous at the other end with Noah Reeves going closest hitting the post. Bude pushed further ahead just before half time as Tom Fry drag flicked a short corner to complete a well deserved 3-1 lead. The second half was an intense affair as Marjon’s got an early goal which got them right back in the game, not long after a double blow was inflicted as a clumsy challenge by Robin Jennings saw him harshly given a yellow card and penalty flick awarded to Marjon’s which was tucked low into the corner to level the scores. Bude tried to remain calm soaking up huge amounts of pressure and were kept in the game as keeeper Andy made more vital saves including a goal line clearance whilst still creating a number of chances and short corners for themselves; and from thier attacking short corner Bude were punished as a quick long ball found a Marjon player who had sneaked unmarked into thier half who crossed to the back post where the ball was bundled in for them to take the lead. Bude responded almost immediately as the inform and influential Paul Floyd made a devastating run down the middle who found Jon on the left who fired home an excellent shot into the roof of the net; however poor discipline then followed as Bude picked up a couple of green cards and the pressure was all back on them and Marjon’s took thier opportunity from a short corner to take the lead again. Bude knew they would get more chances and Jon rounded his excellent performance off by scoring his third from a well worked short corner routine to make it 5 all. Both teams pushed for the winner and for the last three minutes Bude were really under the coche from the home side and it took another excellent top corner stick save from Andy to deny Marjon’s all three points, gaining him a well deserved man of the match and ensure the game quite rightly finished level. This was a fitting end and performance to a solid season where every team member played superbly in this game and over the whole season.
